Philippians 3:1-11
Pastor Homer also referenced Acts 16:25-28 and Psalm 22:3
as he brought this message. He reminded us that our salvation is only
possible by the blood of Christ, and not the works of any man. The three
key marks of a Christian follow:
 | They rejoice! And celebrate with joy the
salvation they have received by Christ's blood |
 | They renounce the works of the flesh. (evil men) |

 | 3/23/08 - Resurrection: God's Response to Our
Greatest Need - 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
 | Pastor Homer that vs. 12-19 in the above scripture
points out the the fallacies of our faith if Christ had NOT be raised from
the grave. However, vs. 20 has that wonderful BUT... Christ WAS
raised, and forgiven, washed in the blood of Jesus and no longer in our
sins. |
 | Galatians 2:20 points out that there is NO truth
outside of Christ. |
 | 2 Corinthians 4:17 points out that though we will
suffer some problems during our temporary stay on earth, that these troubles
will bring us blessings much greater than that trouble. |
 | John 10;10 compares the devil to a thief who comes to
steal in contrast to Jesus who brings us life in its fullness. |

 | 3/9/08 - Manifesting HIS Life
 | Pastor Homer opened with Jesus' words from Mathew
5:48(GNB) "You must be perfect - just as your Father in heaven is perfect".
This perfection cannot be achieved on our own, but only through our openness
to Christ in our lives. Romans 8:9 goes on to tell us that "..you do
not live as your human nature tells you to; instead, you live as the Spirit
tells you to - if, in fact, God's Spirit lives in you." (GNB) Paul's
letter to the Ephesians 5:1 tells us that "Since you are God's dear
children, you must try to be like him." (GNB) Paul was obviously
impressed by Moses writings in Leviticus 11:45 "I am the Lord who brought
you out of Egypt so that I could be your God. You must be holy,
because I am holy." Pastor noted the parallel to us today that God
wishes to take us out of the evil influence of worldly things so we can be
holy. He noted that to conduct effective ministry, we must meet
people's needs. And he asked us if we were willing to yield ourselves
to the will of God & do His will. Jesus set the example by following
God's will. To hear the complete sermon,

Colossians 1:15-17; 2Corinthians 4:4 (we need to pray for our God to remove
the darkness of the evil god of this world that keeps us from seeing and
understanding His word); Hebrews 1:3 (here we see the likeness of God as
revealed to us by his son, Jesus); and John 1:1 |

blessing |
 | Then we must see the blessing as it comes to our life |
 | Also, we must fully understand God's eternal plan |
 | And then, we must answer the question: Does Jesus
have first place in our heart?

 | 12/09/07 - "A Time of Wonder"
Pastor Homer brought out the prediction of the birth of
Christ 600 yrs. before his birth, by the prophet Isaiah in 7:14. This
birth is documented in the familiar verses of Luke 2:1-7. Paul, in
Ephesians 3:20 speaks of the power within us from the Lord himself.
Pastor Homer likened the seed which God placed in the virgin mother Mary, to
the seed (power) that God places within His people, the church. It is
our task to nurture this seed He implanted within us so that the world can see
Jesus through us. Too often, what the world sees within God's people is
hatred, evil and an uncaring attitude about the world around us. A
recent book "In His Steps" and the WWJD (what would Jesus do) bracelets of a
few years back are reminders of how God's people should manifest Jesus in
their lives. Paul writes in 2Corinthians 3:18(NIV) that "And all of us
have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the
glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we
become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more."

 | 11/4/07 - The Meal of Remembrance
This being the first Sunday of November, we celebrated communion
again. Pastor Homer made the following points
 | It is a time of fellowship - Matthew 26:26 |
 | It is a response in obedience - 1 Corinthians 11:25 |
 | It is a time of remembering Christ's redemptive work |
 | It is a time of union with Christ - John 6:35 |
 | It is a time of proclamation - 1 Corinthians 11:24 |
 | And, finally, it is a time of expectation as we look
forward to the day we will sit at supper with Christ.

 | 10/07/07 - Communion Reflections
We have decided to have communion on the first Sunday of every month,
with the exception of those months that have other communion celebrations
within the month. Pastor Homer also desired that this communion should
not just be an afterthought, tacked on to the end of the service, but be the
center of the service. To this end he did not deliver a sermon in his
usual fashion, but delivered a simple Communion Reflection. The story of
the first communion is listed in Matthew 26:17-30. For pastor Homer's
reflections, click here.

 | The Discerning of Spirits (Ephesians 5:1-18)
 | Conviction or Condemnation? God will convict us of our sins in order to encourage us to mend our ways.
The evil one will condemn us in order to weaken and destroy our testimony.
We need to be able to discern the source. |
 | Discerning Good & Evil (Hebrews 5:14) The writer here notes that it takes a mature Christian to discern the
difference. We obtain that maturity by Bible study, prayer and
commitment. |
 | Selfishness or Self-denial? (Mathew 16:24-26) To become a true follower of Christ and obtain the power that He offers us,
we must put aside our selfish ambitions and follow Him. |
 | The Requirements of Discernment

|
 | 2/11/2007 The Release of the Spirit (Genesis
2:4-7) The above scripture speaks of God breathing life into His creation.
In Romans 12:1-2 Paul urges the Christians to give their body to God,
considering all that He has done for them, and to not copy the ways of the
world but to let God transform them into a new person. What a contrast
this is to so many so-called Christians that we see today. Peter points
out in 2Peter 1:3 that God has given us everything we need to live a Godly
life. We can have victory simply by drawing on this deposit He has made
for us. We only need to release what is already within us as Paul wrote
to Timothy in 2Timothy 1:6.
 | 1. He breathed upon them (John 20:20-22) Here we find Jesus breathing on his disciples and giving them power as He
sends them out to continue His work. |
 | 2. The Power of the Spoken Word (Mark 11:22-23) Here, Jesus, instructs the disciples that with faith, they can move
mountains with the spoken word. |
 | The Necessity of Sanctification (Joshua 3:5) Here, Joshua tells the people to purify (sanctify) themselves for the next
day God will do great things through them. We too must insure that
what we pursue is blessed of God and not the Devil or our own desires.
Recall how at Pentecost, the followers gathered together to pray and God
blessed them with powerful tongues.
